Cristiano Ronaldo goals give Real Madrid edge over Bayern Munich

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid came from behind to beat 10-man Bayern Munich 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern, who had thrashed English club Arsenal 10-2 on aggregate to take their place in the last eight, went in front after 26 minutes through a bullet header from Arturo Vidal.

The Chile midfielder, though, wasted a chance to double the German club’s advantage in first-half stoppage time when he blasted a penalty over the crossbar after what looked a poor handball decision against Dani Carvajal.

Real were level two minutes into the second half when Ronaldo swept in a cross from Carvajal.

Bayern had to play the final 30 minutes a man down after Javi Martinez picked up two quick cautions.

And Ronaldo took his tally to 100 European goals when he stabbed the ball past Manuel Neuer in the 77th minute to leave Carlo Ancelotti’s men with it all to do in next week’s second leg back at the Bernabeu.

Chelsea to bid €80 million for Morata

Chelsea are reportedly set to turn to Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata with an offer in the region of €80 million (£70.9 million) after missing out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United. According to Javier Silles of AS, Chelsea are now Morata's best chance of getting a move this summer after he appeared to be close to joining United prior to their capture of Lukaku. While a move to Old Trafford "has not yet been ruled out," sources have reported the Blues will make an offer "close to €80 million, including all variables, to Real Madrid in the next few days."

Lille OSC coach Marcelo Bielsa has decided to make a u-turn and recall Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama back to the first team. The former Super Eagles skipper has been handed a lifeline by Bielsa following his return from a six month injury lay-off. Enyeama and 11 others were deemed surplus to requirements by Bielsa upon his appointment as coach of the French giants last summer, paving the way for them to leave the club. Real Madrid are closing in on the signature of striker Vinicius Jr and the 16-year-old even took a medical examination for the club on Monday.
