Chelsea ready £71 million for top Spanish midfielder

Chelsea are ready to cough up £71m to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Spain

Spanish outlet Don Balon, as quoted by the Daily Star, reporting that the defending Premier League champions want to sign the 22-year-old midfielder to bolster their options in the January transfer window.

According to the same report, Chelsea boss Conte is a big admirer of the Spain international and the Italian coach wants the attacking midfielder in the next transfer window.

However, the Blues could find it difficult to lure Niguez to Stamford Bridge after the 22-year-old signed a new four-year deal with Atletico in the summer.

Indeed, los Rojiblancos wisely included an eye-watering £134m contract release clause to warn off potential suitors in the promising Atletico Madrid talent.

Another stumbling block to any potential deal is Diego Simeone’s reluctance to sell the rising Spanish star, according to Don Balon.

Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season to get their hands on the top-flight crown for the second time in three campaigns.

The west London side are nine points adrift of current Premier League leaders Manchester City to face an uphill battle to retain their top-flight crown.

Gambo Mohammed joins Nigerian league champions Plateau United from Kano Pillars

Nigeria Professional Football League champions Plateau United have signed forward Gambo Mohammed on a two-year deal from Kano Pillars. Gambo, who is Kano Pillars all-time leading scorer, was rumoured to be on his way to Rivers United but has now joined the Jos club. The move ended his over a decade romance with Kano Pillars where he was a cult hero among the supporters. The 29-year old joined Kano Pillars from amateur outfit Buffalo FC in 2006 and won three NPFL titles with the club. He is the latest arrival at Plateau United following the acquisition of King Osanga, Charles Henlong, Amos Gyang and Tosin Omoyele. Other new arrivals are Henry Ochuba, Okiemute Odah, Rapheal Anyagwa, Afolabi Wahab and Peter Suswan. Dutch FA to speak to Vitesse about racist chanting

The Dutch football association KNVB is to look into reports that Vitesse fans made monkey noises directed at Ajax keeper Andre Onana during their match last weekend. The investigation followed a video on YouTube in which the sounds can be heard clearly behind the Ajax goal, where hardened Vitesse fans were sitting. The part of the video with the noise has now been removed but the KNVB has the original recording, website Nu.nl said. ‘Racism has no place in the stadium and must be tackled,’ the KNVB said on Twitter on Tuesday. ‘The KNVB has approached Vitesse to take steps.’ Nu.nl said the KNVB will decide on the basis of the clubs and the referees reports whether to start a formal investigation. Video Assistant Referee(VAR) to be used in Spain

According to Marca, The Spanish FA have been given the green light to begin using VAR - Video Assistant Referee - and the technology could make its debut in the second leg of Atletico Madrid and Elche's Copa del Rey tie at the end of November. VAR is already in use in some European leagues, but there has been a mixed reaction to it, particularly in Germany   and Italy. As such, any initial use of it in Spain will be for testing and it will not be rolled out across the country straight away. Xabi Alonso got a standing ovation from Bayern Munich's fans when he was replaced by Frank Ribery in 82 minutes of the game. What a legend he is, and will be missed by football lovers for his ability to deliver long  range passes accurately. Juventus signed Morata from Madrid in 2014 but the Spanish champions exercised a clause to re-sign him in 2016.  However, after just one year back at Madrid, Morata joined Chelsea in the summer.  "There were contractual agreements to respect," the striker told  La Gazzetta dello Sport of his return to Spain.  "The disappointment was huge: I went right back to the start. They treated me like the kid I was before the two seasons in Italy. "I arrived [in Italy] feeling like a boy and I returned feeling like a true player.
