Girona 2-1 Real Madrid

Champions Real Madrid suffered an embarrassing defeat at La Liga first-timers Girona and are now eight points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Midfielder Portu back-heeled in the winner in the second half, four minutes after ex-Middlesbrough striker Cristhian Stuani's equaliser.

On-loan Manchester City full-back Pablo Maffeo and Portu both struck the woodwork for the home side.

Icco had given Real a first-half lead by tapping in from close range.

The result leaves Zinedine Zidane's side in third place after 10 games behind unbeaten Barca and Valencia, while Girona collected just their third victory of the season to move up to 11th.

According to Marca, The Spanish FA have been given the green light to begin using VAR - Video Assistant Referee - and the technology could make its debut in the second leg of Atletico Madrid and Elche's Copa del Rey tie at the end of November. VAR is already in use in some European leagues, but there has been a mixed reaction to it, particularly in Germany   and Italy. As such, any initial use of it in Spain will be for testing and it will not be rolled out across the country straight away. Arsenal beats Sutton to reach FA Cup quarter final

The Gunners are into the last eight of the FA Cup after goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott at Gander Green Lane Arsenal  avoided an  FA Cup  upset of giant proportions as they beat Sutton 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals. There was to be no fairytale story for Arsenal's non-league opponents as goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott sealed the Gunners' progress after a torrid few days. The win won't repair the damage done by last week's humiliating loss to Bayern Munich, but an FA Cup semi-final spot is now firmly in their sights with another non-league outfit, Lincoln City, next up in the last eight.

A.Madrid Progress despite Drawing goalless

Last term's runners-up therefore became the third Spanish side into the last eight, along with Barcelona and holders  Real Madrid , giving LaLiga the most teams in Friday's draw. Had Bayer progressed, the Bundesliga would have held that honour. In an entertaining contest, Leverkusen created good chances, several for ex- Manchester United  forward  Javier Hernandez , but when they hit the target they found keeper Jan Oblak in unbeatable form, including with a scarcely-believable triple save. Similarly Bernd Leno pulled off some stunning stops. The Vicente Calderon, where Diego Simeone's side have a formidable European record, will therefore host at least one more  Champions League  tie before Atletico move to a new ground. Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman signs their Fastlane Match contract on Raw

One week after toppling  Big Show and decimating  Roman Reigns , Braun Strowman  demanded that Raw General Manager  Mick Foley organize a contract signing to render their Fastlane bout ironclad and prevent Reigns from backing out. Though Foley, who’d been demeaned by Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon  all night, briefly got the better of Strowman in a verbal confrontation, The Monster Among Men was, once again, the night’s big winner when things turned physical. Reigns resurfaced to take the fight to his monstrous opponent, and briefly seemed to come out on top — though it took a fight through the crowd and a Spear that took out Strowman, the barricade  and   a security guy to do it. Strowman ultimately rose from the ruins and got the last word, driving Reigns so hard into the turnbuckle that the whole top row of ropes snapped off the ring. Angry Messi tells Barca to Drop Andre Gomes

Gomes has endured a difficult first season at Barcelona since signing from Valencia in the summer. But despite his erratic displays, manager Luis Enrique continues to persist with him. His selection is said to be causing frictions in the dressing room with Messi particularly annoyed. And Spanish outlet DiarioGol claim the Argentina international has demanded Gomes be dropped with immediate effect. Messi and fellow forwards Neymar and Luis Suarez are said to be appalled at Enrique's faith in Gomes. They believe their failure to hit top form is down to the 23-year-old lacklustre displays in the middle of the park. The midfielder's inclusion has come at a price with Ivan Rakitic forced to settle for a place on the bench.
