Rooney to miss Man Utd next two games

By

The Manchester United skipper suffered a muscle injury in United’s 3-0 win away to Leicester City, and is yet to recover since. He has missed three games after that, and looks all set to be on the sidelines for at least a week more.

Jose Mourinho revealed in his pre-match press conference on Monday that Rooney will miss the Europa League tie against Saint-Étienne, and there is no guarantee that he will play on Sunday. England defender, Phil Jones, is also injured.

The Portuguese said, as quoted byThe Times:

Rooney is injured and Phil Jones is injured. I don’t think they will recover [to face Saint-Étienne]. Rooney and Jones haven’t trained with the team yet so I don’t think they will be there.”

When asked if Rooney could miss Sunday’s match, Mourinho replied: “I don’t know.”

United face Chelsea in their next FA Cup tie, and odds are against them to beat the Premier League leaders in the quarter-final. Should United suffer a defeat, Rooney may not play at Wembley again this season.

The 31-year-old has still plenty to offer, but given his diminishing role in the side, it is very clear that Mourinho wants to groom young players instead.

Meanwhile, United are still waiting to learn about their re-arranged derby fixture against Manchester City. The Red Devils were supposed to face their derby rivals at the EtihadStadium on Sunday, but the game has been postponed due to United’s participation in the EFL Cup final.

Marc Bombardo the guy to become the new Charles Puyol

By
Image
His mother, Laura, saw quickly that this boy had limitless energy. When he was four, Marc Bombardo went to play for the team in his twon, Sant Quirze del Valles. He started off as a goalkeeper but saw quickly that it was not his job and moved to midfield. Two years later Barcelona signed him and decided that he was a central defender. And from there he hasn't changed. Marc, 11, has always been a responsible boy. In Benjamin B his coach Jordi Perez told him 'Bomba, keep a clean sheet yeah!" to add to the responsibility on his shoulders. His team-mates and even their opponents know Marc as 'la Bomba'. Although he's not a boy that has a lot of idols, Marc doesn't hide his footballing reference point. None other than Carles Puyol, another player that like him, loved playing football.  In his short career so far, two coaches have influenced him especially. Albert Puig Alcaide, the first coach he had at Benjamin B, the first to give him notions of techniques a...

Mali looks like U23 side and not U17 says Iran U17 coach

By
Image
Head Coach of the Iranian u17 side has accused Mali if age cheating at the ongoing U17 world cup in India. Iran were last Tuesday trashed 5-1 by Mali during the round of 16 match between both sides. Hadji Drame, Lassana N’Diaye, Fode Konate and Seme Camara were on the score sheet in the match dominated by Mali. "They sometimes look like they are an U-23 team and not in the same category as us (U-17),” said Al-Rubaye in the aftermath of the match.  “It’s quite visible in the way they play, the way they shoot and their abilities, like speed and physicality. “It's unfair sometimes because there is a big difference between African teams and others.” Yet Mali coach Jonas Komla shrugged off any insinuations that his side may be fielding overage players. ''In football, it is important to accept the results. In a tournament of this stature, there are clear rules and testing for every player is performed before the World Cup. We have passed all t...

Real Madrid are the first team to win the UCL trophy back to back after a 4-1 win over Juventus

By
Image
He did what he always does. And Real Madrid did what they have done so often since this rather magnificent trophy was first awarded in 1956. Cristiano Ronaldo, at 32, is still demanding centre stage. He won an FA Cup final at this stadium in 2004 as a callow youth against Millwall. It was his first ever trophy. On Saturday night he secured his 20th. The opposition was somewhat more glamorous here, the prize more treasured but the performance remained the same. He did what he does, which is to lead from the front and ensure that, if silverware is at stake, he is the man left holding it at the end. But Real Madrid are the team who appropriated the old European Cup at its outset. Now they are dominating the modern era. This was their 12th trophy of all time. But never before in the modern era of the Champions League has the trophy been defended. It has now. Three wins in four years begins to look like a team of the calibre of Ajax, Bayern, Liverpool, AC Milan. Don't mention it on L...

Arsenal miss out on top 4 for the first time in 21 years despite 3-1 win over Everton

By
Image
Needing slip-ups from either Liverpool or Manchester City on the final day of the season to have any chance of a top-four finish, Arsenal took an eighth-minute lead through Hector Bellerin. They did suffer a setback when Laurent Koscielny was sent off for a late lunge on Enner Valencia in the 14th minute, ruling him out of the FA Cup final, but doubled their lead through Alexis Sanchez in the 27th minute. Everton, who started with Ross Barkley on the bench, pulled a goal back through Romelu Lukaku's penalty after Rob Holding handled in the penalty area. But the Gunners, who lost Alexis Sanchez to injury in the 68th minute, secured victory thanks to Aaron Ramsey's injury-time strike. Arsenal's victory was in vain though in terms of Champions League qualification as Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 victory at home to relegated Middlesbrough, while Manchester City hammered Watford 5-0. It means a first finish outside the top four for Arsenal during Arsene Wenger's tenure at...

By
Image
Zidane appeared in the press room at the National Stadium of Wales to discuss his side's Champions League final against Juventus. The madridista coach expressed his confidence in the team: “We're ready. We've worked extremely hard to get here. We've won LaLiga as well. We're in great shape and now it's time to play this well deserved final. The most important thing is that all of us are ready to play this match”. “There's no pressure. At Madrid we live with pressure every day. I've experienced it as a player and as a coach. We all know what this club is about. They're saying we're favourites but football doesn't work like that. It's a final and anything can happen. It's 50-50, there are no favourites. We're going to try and do everything we can to win the Champions League once again”.                 Feelings “If you'd told me when I was a kid that I was going to experience all o...

PSG to sell Cavani next season because of Neymar quarrels.

By
Image
Neymar is not comfortable. The Brazilian has not just found himself at home in Paris. His quarrels with Cavani have caused a bad atmosphere in the locker room, and his relationship with Emery is not the best.  Al-Khelaïfi is concerned about this. The sheikh of PSG does not want his star to be upset, and that is why he has given carte blanche to make any request.  'Ney' is clear: he wants Cavani out next season. To replace it, the ex of Barça has a name in the head: Karim Benzema.  The '10' has a good relationship with the Frenchman, and believes that he would be the perfect player to accompany him and Mbappé in attack.  Benzema has proved to be a striker who does not mind playing for others, and is that it takes years in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo without giving any problem. He is a striker who stands out by combining with his teammates and not being selfish facing the goal. That's what Neymar wants.  The PS...
