Mbappe believes Neymar will win Ballon d'Or before him

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe believes he is still a long way off winning the Ballon d’Or but sees PSG teammate Neymar Jr lifting the honours very soon.

The 18-year-old earned a place on the 30-man shortlist for France Football’s prize following his exceptional season for Monaco in 2016-17, in which he helped them to win Ligue 1 and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to win the award for the second year in a row, although Barcelona star Lionel Messi and PSG’s world-record signing Neymar are expected to challenge closely, having finished second and third respectively behind the Portugal captain in the standings for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award this month.

Mbappe believes he can establish his place as a modern great if he can achieve success on the international stage with France, but he does not expect the Ballon d’Or to bear his name for some time.

“I still have a lot of steps to go towards the Ballon d’Or. I’m still learning,” he told Telefoot.

Manchester united to hijack Bakayoko from Chelsea

Manchester United are reportedly set to beat Chelsea to the signing of another key summer target, with a fee said to have been agreed with AS Monaco for midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko . According to George Scott of the Daily Star, the Red Devils have had a £35 million offer for Bakayoko accepted. James Dickenson of the Daily Express reported similar news, suggesting the France international is on his way to Old Trafford. The reports note United have already swooped to pip Chelsea to the capture of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer. News of interest from United will be troubling to Chelsea supporters after the Red Devils hijacked the club's move for Lukaku. However, given the reports emerging from France, Blues fans will remain quietly confident Bakayoko is on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Gambo Mohammed joins Nigerian league champions Plateau United from Kano Pillars

Nigeria Professional Football League champions Plateau United have signed forward Gambo Mohammed on a two-year deal from Kano Pillars. Gambo, who is Kano Pillars all-time leading scorer, was rumoured to be on his way to Rivers United but has now joined the Jos club. The move ended his over a decade romance with Kano Pillars where he was a cult hero among the supporters. The 29-year old joined Kano Pillars from amateur outfit Buffalo FC in 2006 and won three NPFL titles with the club. He is the latest arrival at Plateau United following the acquisition of King Osanga, Charles Henlong, Amos Gyang and Tosin Omoyele. Other new arrivals are Henry Ochuba, Okiemute Odah, Rapheal Anyagwa, Afolabi Wahab and Peter Suswan. Tottenham are poised to join the hunt for Real Socidedad winger Mikel Oyarzabal , according to a report. Italian news outlet  Calcio Mercato  claims that Serie A giants Juventus and Inter Milan are also keeping track of Oyarzabal, 20, whose stock has risen “significantly” in the past year. The one-time Spain international, who made his debut in March, has been firing on all cylinders in La Liga this season, scoring six goals in eight league appearances – five more than Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo. Barcelona boss Luis Enrique exploited the post-match euphoria of his side's 6-1 annihilation of Sporting Gijon on Wednesday night to announce that he will quit at the end of the season. Enrique, 46, cited the grind of the pressure as the main reason for his departure. "We were all left a bit open-mouthed," admitted midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who said the squad was told of Enrique's decision just before his post-match press conference.
